Dionne Stephen was selected for a Global Health Equity Scholars (GHES) Junior Faculty Fellowship (http:/ghes.berkeley.edu). This is a mentored research fellowship sponsored by the Fogarty International Center (FIC) and the NIH. The GHES’s institution consortium includes the University of California, Berkeley, Stanford University, Yale University and FIU. The main objective of the program is to generate a cadre of global health researchers who will address the new challenges in global health. Dr. Purnima Madhivanan in the FIU School of Public Health will serve as her U.S. GHES mentor. The program will provide Dionne with funding to implement a project that identifies culturally informed perceptions of violence against women among emerging adults living in Mysore, India.
It is very exciting that two of our faculty Purinima Madhivanan (Robert Stempel College of Public Health and Social Work-Department of Epideminology) and Dionne Stephens (School of Integrated Sciences and Humanities-Department of Psychology) will be working together on this project. As you would remember from our faculty meetings this project brings together two of the CWGS and SISH initiatives on Violence against Women and Health.
